Report Title: under 10 white / round 13 : FTG vs Bayswater
Coach Name: Michael Hearn
Age Group: Under 10
Winter had set in with a very cold wet day for our round 13 clash with Bayswater, our first time playing them since the lightning premiership in round 3. Bayswater were low on numbers for the game requiring 4 players as they only had 14 due to illness and holidays, a wonderful effort by 16 of the Eagles for pulling on a Bayswater jumper for a quarter each and doing very well for the opposition. The positive of this situation was that each player was able to play a full game.
Behind captains for the day, Brody Jensen and Jake Jesson the Eagles came out strong and managed 4 goals in the first quarter, highlighted by Nico Koumas managing to kick his first goal for the season. The boys commitment toward the football was on show during the first 12 minutes of the game, out running, kicking and marking their opponents on many occasions.
With the conditions not improving, the cold and wet was becoming a strong factor in the game, but to the boys credit they continued to push forward, using many of the skills and training drills that they had worked on during the season. Teamwork was a highlight of the game during the next 3 quarters, many of the boys decided it was time to help out one of their teammates to get him to kick his first goal of not only the season but in his football career. A number of the boys gave up easy chances of a goal themselves to try to get the ball to Ben Raymond, and it all came together in the final quarter when Ben was able to take a strong mark and then kicked truly, excitement erupted on the achievement, not only on the ground but by the supporters on the other side of the boundary line.
While it may have been an 8 goal win in the scorebook, the real victory was the teamwork, sportsmanship and mateship shown by the Eagles. A great complement was passed along after the game by the Bayswater coaching staff, they said that all the boys played the game wonderfully well and never let the cold affect them out on the ground, high praise for 9 and 10 year olds.
Congratulations goes to Ben Raymond on winning his presidents medal, for not only kicking his first goal but for all the effort shown in the game, tackling strongly, gaining many kicks and taking a great mark.
